The Night Before Christmas: Missionary Edition

‘Twas the night before Christmas, when all over the world

Not a missionary was stirring, not one could be heard

The suitcases were packed by the front door with care,

In hopes that a bus soon would be there

The World Racers were nestled all snug on their sleeping pads;

While visions of home danced in their heads

I sat down with my journal and thought maybe perhaps

I could settle my brain for a long winter’s nap

I pulled out my pen and wrote down my list

But to serve in Nicaragua is what I really wished

How will I get there? There must be a way

And in that moment, I heard Santa’s sleigh

As I gasped with surprised and was turning around

Down the chimney St. Nicholas came with a bound

He didn’t fill stockings or put gifts under a tree

But simply smiled and handed a list to me

Puzzled, I looked down to read what he wrote

And you’ll never guess what was on that note

A list of people who would help fill my wish

And your name was right at the top of the list!

And laying his finger aside of his nose

And giving a nod, up the chimney he rose

He sprang to his sleigh, to his team gave a whistle

And away they all flew like the down of a thistle

But I heard him exclaim, ere he drove out of sight-

“Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night!”
